I love Hawkins Baazar – they sell so much random stuff that appeals to the child in me! When I was kid, I used to adore Morph and now he is back. You can even buy a kit to make your own Morph. Their web site is a lot of fun and doesn’t take anything too seriously. It has fun puzzles and games to stimulate the brain and some brilliant gifts, like a micro-brewery (yup, a science experiment you get to drink at the end!). I think the cat brainpower test looks great, although my own cat is far too intelligent to put up with me attempting to work out her IQ. So go check them out!

Hawkin’s Bazaar offers a unique and extensive range of unusual toys, gifts, gadgets and curiosities. We are not just another toy-shop, or indeed just another mail-order company. We work hard to source out-of-the-ordinary products and to offer something different, a range of toys and gifts that will appeal to many ages and tastes.

They sell electronic salt and pepper mills, exectutive toys, binary watches, mini-alcohol breath testers, speakers, radios, and loads more.

Alcosense

Posted in Electronics, Gadgets, Geek Gifts with tags , , on September 12, 2008 by sciencemole

Alcosense is a pretty good idea really. How many times have you driven home the morning after a big night out and not thought about whether you were over the limit to drive?

AlcoSense™ is a pocket sized alcohol breathalyser, designed and developed specifically for the UK market. No larger than a mobile phone, it’s quick and easy to use at anytime, anywhere. Within seconds it will give you an accurate reading of your level of intoxication and will even warn you when you are near or over the UK drink drive limit.

If you drank 4 pints or 3 large glasses of wine during a night out it could take as long as 12 hours for the alcohol to leave your system. If you stopped drinking at midnight you could still be over the drink drive limit at 10am. You can’t tell when you’re OK to drive again, but AlcoSense™ can.

It’s quite expensive at around £60, but more than worth it if it saves you from losing your licence or, worse, being involved in an accident when you’re not safe to drive. It would make a great xmas present too!
